Sare Liz Gordy is a priest in the Episcopal Church (canonically resident in the Diocese of Western New York), a theologian and a novelist. Because Rev. Gordy is a priest at large in the diocese and not a parish priest who has contracted all of her work time to a certain group of people (and in return receives a salary from them), there are a variety of services that she offers to the community at large, which can be contracted with her on an individual basis. Rituals & Retreats
Weddings
Rev. Gordy is licensed in New York State and Washington D.C. to perform marriages and can work with the bride and groom to create the wedding ceremony that will bring joy to the happy couple and all of their family. Rev. Gordy also offers pre-martial counseling to couples who seek it.
Funerals
Rev. Gordy is available to provide pastoral care during a berevement as well as working with family and funeral directors to create the most appropriate funeral service for their loved one.
Supply Work: Sunday Services
Rev. Gordy is available all throughout the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York to fill in for your Rector while she or he is away or ill. Sundays are reserved on a first come, first served basis, so please check with her early. Call (716) 725-8213. (Standard diocesan rates apply.)
Retreats
Rev. Gordy offers her services as a retreat leader and in the past has taught courses and led retreats on the topics of women mystics, yoga & meditation, various kinds of meditation, different spiritual approaches, theological reflection, biblical inquiry, and the Japanese healing art of Reiki.
Our retreat was a wonderful combination of learning, contemplation and fun. Everything was very well organized from the music, handouts and program. Sare arrived early to look at the space and set up the area for yoga and meditation. The women of St. Mark’s have been holding a retreat [on various topics with various retreat leaders] for more than ten years. This year I heard comments like, ‘best retreat ever’, ‘awesome retreat’, and ‘can we do it again?’ Thank you Sare for a wonderful retreat!

Counseling & Teaching
Spiritual Direction
Rev. Gordy offers spiritual direction, which is similar to but different from counseling. Spiritual direction is excellent for anyone who struggles to experience joy, dwell in peace, or live with integrity and wants to do something about their suffering. To insure that this is a service accessible to those who crave it, Rev. Gordy offers her fees on a sliding scale. She regrets that she does not offer third-party insurance billing.
Japanese healing art of Reiki
Rev. Gordy is a Level III Reiki Master and Teacher and offers courses on Levels I, II, and III of Reiki. She teaches both individuals and groups and holds periodic classes in her home, office, and in fine weather, any one of Buffalo’s beautiful Olmstead Parks.

The Monday Morning Exegete
Rev. Gordy currently offers a weekly exegetical newsletter for paid subscribers which includes a copy of the Sunday readings, a word study in Greek, an alternate translation of the gospel reading, and some starter thoughts from the collect and each of the readings that can help to kick off sermon preparation, bible study musings, and e-newsletter text delivered to their inbox on Monday afternoons. Each subscriber has a license to reprint the contents of the Monday Morning Exegete. Subscriptions are available for $20/month.
