What is Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is a partnership that you enter into when you’re looking to experience joy, peace and love more often, and in a deeper and more profound way. It’s a little like therapy – except it’s not quite therapy. It’s a little like having a really wise friend – except it’s not quite a friendship. It’s a little like Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra on Speed dial – except it’s not quite that, either.  Actually, it’s a lot like life coaching, but a lot more spiritual.

Is this some religious thing?

Not really. It’s not about any particular religion. It’s not about a system of belief to buy into or not. It’s about you experiencing joy, peace and love just by changing your own perspective on life. It’s not a religious thing, it’s a spiritual thing. It’s about experiencing joy, experiencing peace, experiencing love every single day of your life.

How does it work?

As a Spiritual Director, you and I talk for ninety minutes once a month over Zoom. You talk about your life, where the potholes seem to be, and if you’ve tripped over them or fallen into them completely and together you and I get real with emotions, ground ourselves in a sacred perspective of love, and discover new ways of experiencing joy. And from an experience of joy, no good thing is out of your grasp – you can fulfill your dreams and live into the things you’re most passionate about.

In addition to the direct communication, I also send you a check-in email before the session in which you can respond to at length, thus allowing our conversation to cut right to the quick, so you can get more out of our time together. I also send an email follow-up about two weeks after your session to check in your progress between sessions, and I guarantee a thoughtful (ie, time consuming) response to your response.

How much does it cost?

I have a no-questions asked sliding scale of $40-$200 per 90 minute session, with email support and you can pay through my account at patreon, or via paypal. Usually sessions are no more than monthly.

What are your qualifications?

I’ve got degrees, if you’re interested. I have a masters in Social Work from the University at Buffalo, and a masters in Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. Also, I’m one of those ordained types – I’m a priest in the Episcopal Church (in the diocese of Western New York). But that’s not what qualifies me to do Spiritual Direction. What qualifies me is actually two things: First, I’ve got a knack for it, and so I’ve found myself engaging in this sort of relationship in formal and informal ways for more than twenty years. It’s what I love to do, and the difference I want to make in the world.  Second, this joy-peace-love work is the very work I’ve been doing on myself, with the help and care of others, again, for more than twenty years.

How do we get started?

Just fill out the form below, and I’ll either send you an email or give you a call. We’ll talk, see if we can work together, and schedule a time to meet on Zoom. It’s that simple. Talk to you soon!
