“Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All.”– Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas, 2.
I love that Jesus lays out the path as follows: Seek->Find->Panic->Wow->Conquer. It feels very stoic, very ‘the obstacle is the way’, because I don’t know about you but I often have a moment of panic when I hit the obstacle in the road, and even more so when I’m looking for something and find it… and it wasn’t what I thought it would be. And since Jesus is talking about Enlightenment here, the implication is that it isn’t what we think it is. Likely it’s better (which is great), and also it likely calls into question a lot of what we take for granted (perhaps including all reality), and you know, I think finding that out merits a little panic. And once the panic is gotten over, it’s apparently Wow time. And shortly after that you become a rockstar.
